What is Zap?

Zap is an exciting digital gift card and rewards programme. Zap can be spent at retailers that accept it as payment for products that you want to buy, gifted to friends and family, and even exchanged for New Zealand dollars – all using an app on your smartphone. You can earn Zap and get access to exclusive deals and bonus rewards when you spend at participating retailers!

But “under the hood”, Zap utilizes cutting-edge Blockchain technology that is distributed, permissionless, and ultra-secure.

  • Distributed: Zap uses Blockchain technology, which has a shared, public ledger. This means that anyone can verify transactions on the Waves Blockchain explorer.
  • Permissionless: This means that anyone can download the app and start using right away, without a login.
  • Ultra-secure: Zap’s underlying technology is protected by advanced mathematics. But beyond this, each Zap wallet is protected by a security PIN, thumb print, and a master key consisting of 12 recovery words that only you have access to.

How do I send or receive Zap?

Sending Zap is easy. If you are using the consumer version of the app (not the version for retailers), just hit the blue Zap button () at the bottom of the screen and choose 'send zap' from the menu. Enter the amount you want to send and hit 'continue to wallet address'. Scan the QR code or enter the Zap wallet address that you want to send your Zap through to. There are two ways you can receive Zap. If you are with the sender, you can hit the blue Zap button at the bottom of the screen and choose 'receive zap' from the menu. Let them scan your QR code and zap you their chosen amount. If you are not with the person Zapping you, hit the blue Zap button then choose 'receive zap'. Next, copy, paste and send your wallet address via a messaging service or email. Paying online with Zap is easy as! Select the Zap payment option during checkout at participating retailers like Red Rat. This will display a QR code for you to scan and pay your chosen amount of Zap. To pay, hit the blue Zap button then choose 'send zap'. Enter the amount you want to pay with Zap and hit 'continue to wallet address'. Select 'scan' and scan the QR code on screen, check the payment details are correct and complete the transaction by hitting the 'send zap' button. Alternatively, you can enter the wallet address displayed under the QR code if you cannot scan the QR code on screen. If you happen to be in a store that accepts Zap, just tell the team member that you are paying with Zap and they will walk you through the process.

Is Zap secure?

Zap is ultra-secure and has built-in features to keep your precious Zap safe. These include a security PIN and thumbprint recognition, plus a unique personal set of recovery words that you and only you will have a copy of. This means that if you lose your phone or your PIN number, you can use your personal set of recovery words to access and recover your Zap!

How do I set up my Zap wallet?

When you download Zap for the first time you will need to create a Zap wallet address. This is your own secure location where you can store your Zap. Your wallet has all of your Zap purchases and transfers, plus any memos you have made along the way.

What if I have problems with troubleshooting?

Zap balance not updating? Make sure you are connected to the internet. An internet connection is required for your balance to update on the Zap dashboard. Zap wallet address not working? Try scanning their QR code for best results. Or alternatively, check, copy, and paste their zap wallet address again. For any other issues, please feel free to contact our Zap support team. How do I earn Zap?

You can earn Zap each time you spend at participating retailers. At Red Rat stores, you get 3% of your purchase back in Zap every time you spend online or in store!

Can I sell my Zap?

Yes! Unlike some other NZ rewards programmes, Zap allows you to sell it for New Zealand dollars! You can do this using the Bronze Exchange on the Zap smartphone app. Just tap the blue Zap button at the bottom of the screen, choose 'sell zap', then follow the steps on screen. You will need to create a Bronze Exchange account to be able to sell your Zap.

I sold my Zap for NZD using the Zap app. When will I receive the NZD in my bank account?

Your Zap sale will take 1 working day (Monday-Friday) to process. Once the transaction is complete, it will be delivered to your selected bank account.

What type of devices are supported for Zap?

The Zap app is available for both Apple and Android devices. You can download it from the Apple Store and Google Play.
